It was a year and half ago when Long and I finally decided to take the leap to move from Nashville to New York city. Back then when we made the decision, we had almost zero idea of what to expect for living in Manhattan. Fast forward to six months ago, we were apartment hunting again, but this time, we were very well prepared. For example, by then we learned that if there is a dishwasher in the unit, it’s like seeing a unicorn in the city. Also, the number one rule for adding a new piece of furniture, is that we need to make sure it is both aesthetically pleasing AND functional, as we really don’t have much space to spare.
That principle, is exactly what I had in mind when I started browsing on Crate and Barrel’s website for a collaboration to re-decorate the entryway in my home.
The very first piece I decided on was the Phoenix Rustic Work Table made of reclaimed wood. For one thing, I was hoping to create an entryway area that gives off a beautiful, clean and elegant first impression of our new apartment. On top of that, it should be a space that we could easily turn to a work place, which makes this stunning hand-crafted wooden table an ideal choice. Besides its unique design, one of the things I like the most about the table is, it is very sturdy yet not bulky at all for a small apartment. Other than the beautiful catch-all tray on the table, I was able to fit a basket and a magazine rack underneath which helps both to keep the area decluttered and to create more storage space.
I have always liked the idea of adding a mirror to the entryway as a focal point to open up and brighten the space. What caught my eyes was this wall mirror with brass finish that has a unique vintage appeal. Instead of hanging, I left it leaning against the wall to create a more casual and inviting look.
Finding the right chair for this area needed quite some head-scratching. At last, I went for this metal dining chair with leather cushion, as it is sized perfectly and simply visually appealing.
I was drawn to this Cole desk lamp by its simple and sleek style, which turned out to blend in very well with the rest of the décor. I find that all the gold accent details really help to tie it all together.
For decorations, I picked a set of elegant cream-colored vases (also here) and added a faux potted agave as a perfect finishing touch.
Weekdays at night or during the weekends, we would merely re-arrange the smaller decoration pieces on the table and move the chair, then this space is instantly turned into a working area!
I have absolutely enjoyed re-decorating our entryway with Crate and Barrel and seeing everything come together. At the end of the day, living in a small space can surely be overwhelming from time to time, but it doesn’t mean we can’t have our personal style!
